QCSV Club Updates

Updated: Jan 23, 2020

With the new year off to a great start, QCSV has some exciting updates to announce!

Our volunteers are currently working in a number of institutions, including Henry Trail, Collins Bay, Joyceville, and Millhaven RTC.

Christmas cards made by volunteers for offenders at Henry Trail

Henry Trail

In December, QCSV made Christmas cards for offenders at Henry Trail and distributed them at a coffee house and board game event. It was an amazing event that brought everyone together during the holiday season. This semester we will be continuing with art and hobby craft classes and are also looking into a possible partnership with another Queen’s club to produce some new programming.

Collins Bay

We are excited to continue working at Collins Bay and will be running employment workshops starting early February.

Joyceville

We are in the process of confirming dates for art classes at Joyceville, as well as finalizing dates for a second series of employment workshops.

Millhaven

At Millhaven RTC, our volunteers are working to implement a new yoga and mindfulness workshop, as well as continue to run hobby craft classes. In the next couple of weeks, some of our volunteers will also be starting programs in the new SIU (stay tuned for an upcoming blog with more information on Structured Intervention Units).

In other news, March 1st is the projected release date for a series of promotional videos where QCSV will be raising awareness about our club while also addressing the stigma surrounding offenders. We are also working on designing and implementing a new financial literacy program at Henry Trail, which we will later be modifying for the offenders at Joyceville.

We are excited for all these new developments in the upcoming semester and can’t wait to share more with all of you.
